Working In New Zealand

Accreditation

Employer accreditation is mandatory for any business wanting to employ skilled international workers – including existing workforce.

The main purpose of the accreditation requirement is to reduce migrant exploitation. It is a three-step process, that comes with costs and the potential for errors along the way.  It is crucial to follow this process correctly to avoid being unable to hire or retain international staff.

There are four types of accreditation and you must hold the relevant type for your business.

Whatever stage of the process you are at – our team can help, including submission and processing of Accredited Employer Work Visas (AEWV).

Job Checks

Once those employers in New Zealand are accredited, you need to get a job check for those positions other than green list roles, to hire immigrants. This aims to support local employment opportunities and ensure employers are offering attractive wages to New Zealanders before they look to recruit migrants.

The new median wage of $29.66 an hour will come into effect on 27 February 2023. (New median wage will apply from 27 February 2023 | Immigration New Zealand). The median wage is the minimum pay threshold for most jobs under the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) which means visa applications submitted from 27 February 2023 will need to meet the new thresholds.
